TESIS: IMPLEMENTASI KONSEP JIHAD JEMAAH TABLIGH DAN PANDANGAN MASYARAKAT (Studi Kasus di Kecamatan Minasatene Kabupaten Pangkep)

This thesis discusses the implementation of Tablighi Jamaat jihad
concept and the community perceptions toward the concept at Minasatene
district of Pangkep Regency. From the main research problem, the researcher
raised two research questions: 1) How is the concept and the implementation of
Tablighi Jamaat Jihad and its implementation in the Minasatene district of
Pangkep regency? 2) What are the perceptions of the community towards the
implementation of Tablighi Jamaat jihad concept at Minasatene district of
Pangkep regency?
This research employs a descriptive field research by using a qualitative
method. The sudy was conducted to provide an analytical description of the
implementation of Tablighi Jamaat concept and the perceptions of the
community on the concept at Minasatene district of Pangkep regency. The
approaches used in this study were the shar’i and the sociological approaches.
The shar'i approach was used to analyze the Jihad concept of Tablighi Jamaat
from the perspective of sharia or Islamic law. Meanwhile, the sociological
approach was used to analyze the community’s perceptions towards the
implementation of Tablighi Jamaat’s Jihad at Minasatene district of Pangkep.
This research indicated that the concept of Tablighi Jamaat’s Jihad at
Minasatene district of Pangkep possessed various meanings. The meanings of the
Jihad include; the increase of faith and Islamic practices, the increase of worship to
God Almighty, and the improvement of morals and self-reconciliation. The jihad
implementation concept was carried out by jemaah by donating the wealth for
charity and investing time and knowledge to teach Islamic knowledge with the aim
of competing in doing good deeds. In addition, as preaching has been one of basic
religious commands and teachings, the Jihad of Tablighis at Mianasatene district of
Pangkep was conducted with the concept called as khuruj. Khuruj for preach is a
preaching concept of Tablighi Jamaat where it is conducted with a variety of time
such as 3 days, 40 days, or even 4 months. In terms of the community’s perception
and acceptance on the implementation of the Tablighi Jamaat jihad concept at
Minasatene district of Pangkep, the perceptions of people were broadly divided into
two. The first group is the people who receive and support the preaching concept of
J Tablighi Jamaat, and the second group is the people who reject the presence of the
Tablighi Jamaat preaching concept. The people who accept and support the Jemaah
Tabligh preaching concept argue that Jemaah Tabligh has the enthusiasm and
courage to preach which should be appreciated. Door to door da’wah from one
mosque to another has been considered to be difficult to do, and it could not be
done by everyone. Therefore, their intention to preach for goodness and faith has to
be valued and respected. In contrast, the people who reject the Tablighi Jamaat
preaching concept take particular offence against the concept that the Tablighis are
a messy bunch who dirty the mosques. In addition, the Tablighis were considered to
neglect their families that they could not fulfill their family economic needs.
Besides, Tablighis were also considered to have narrow understanding on religion where the methods of their preaching were unable to respond the current socioeconomic
conditions faced by society and nation. Therefore, given the two different
groups in responding the concept of Tablighi Jamaat, the government is expected to
be able to bridge the differences among the society so that problems related to the
different opinions of tablighi concept won’t occur in the future.
