TESIS: PENGARUH TAREKAT KHALWATIYAH DALAM TRADISI MAPPATI NANRE DI DESA GAYA BARU KECAMATAN CITTA KABUPATEN SOPPENG

This research discusses the influence of Tarekat Khalwatiyah on the community who holds Mappati Nanre tradition in Gaya Baru Sub Dsitrict of Citta District in Soppeng Regency. The discussion will be divided into three sub focuses: 1) the procedures of Mappati Nanre ritual; 2) people’s pereption of Mappati Nanre tradition; 3) how Tarekat Khawatiyah affects Mappati Nanre tradition.
In investigating the issue, this research uses field research design with a qualitative method. It scrutinizes the issue through a phenomenological approach. The research data consist of primary data which are obtained through interviews with traditional figures, cultural figures as well as religious leaders of Gaya Baru Sub District, and secondary data from literature studies. This study uses interviews, observations, and documentation to collect research data. It then analyses the data through data reduction, data display and conclusion stages.
The results of data analysis have provided this research with several findings. First, the Mappati Nanre rituals consist of the slaughter of the sacrificial animals and an obligation of puang mallajangnge. Second, Tarekat Khalwatiyah influences the Islamic development in the community through baiat, dhikr, Dhuhr prayer following Jumuah Prayer, and graveyard pilgrimage. Third, some changes in the concept and symbolism of traditional beliefs in Gaya Baru Sub District indicated by the findings is through the intensity of community members in engaging in tarekat doctrine that further develops the inclusive spirit and intention tenacity especially in achieving the objectives of traditional ritual. It can only be seen through the embodiment of philosophical meanings and objectives of the traditional beliefs.
In conclusion, this research hopes that the community members of Gaya Baru Sub District in Citta District of Soppeng Regency can develop a simultaneous understanding of both beliefs so that it can contribute to the improvement of their religious understanding as well as social lives.
