TESIS: NEO KHAWARIJ; STUDI KRITIS GENEALOGI DOKTRIN RADIKALISME AGAMA DI ERA MILENIAL

This study aims to: 1) describe and analyze the transformation of NeoKhawarij thinking and the genealogy of the neo-Khawarij radicalism doctrine, 2)
present the scholars' criticism of the radicalism doctrine which forms the basis of
Neo-Khawarij thinking, and 3) posit and analyze the influence of Neo-Khawarij
on the millennial generation.
In answering these problems, the authors use a multidisciplinary approach,
including theological, historical, phenomenological, and communication
approaches. This research is classified as library research. Data was collected by
quoting, adapting, and analyzing using content analysis on representative
literature and having relevance to the issues discussed, then reviewing and
concluding them.
After discussing the early dynamics of the Khawarij and explaining the role
of early Khawarij thought in shaping the Neo-Khawarij mindset, the writer finds
similarities in the main points of thought that led to acts of radicalism. The
mindset that tends to be rigid and literal in the style of the early Khawarij
continued to develop starting from the Umayyad and Abbasid eras and was
adopted back in the Middle Ages. The transmission of this ideology continues
thanks to the support of information technology in the millennial era. Scholars
criticize the concept of hakimiyah, the basic foundation of some of their
thoughts. Likewise, jihad, which necessitates war, and the use of the term
Islamic state vs. infidel state is not appropriate, so the meaning of the term is
disguised and distorted. The neo-Khawarij radicalism doctrine targets the
millennial generation, vulnerable due to their freedom and ease of accessing
information from various directions. The perpetrators of various acts of
radicalism in the name of religion that have occurred in recent years are among
the young millennial generation.
The results of this research are expected to provide an understanding to the
broader community about the existence of Neo Khawarij thinking and the
doctrine of religious radicalism and its harmful effects on the millennial
generation. Apart from that, this research is also expected to be a reference for
scientific work in the academic field, especially in Islamic thought
